Martial Arts Classes & Timetable in Southport
Our weekly timetable is built so there is something for every age and stage, from a child's very first lesson to a seasoned adult drilling technique. Below you'll find a quick guide to the disciplines we teach, the full weekly schedule, and notes on what each session involves so you can pick a class that suits you. Every class is beginner-friendly — if you're brand new, just look for the sessions marked for all levels and come along to a free trial. Importantly, our classes run year-round with genuine continuity: we keep training through the school holidays, so there are no long breaks to undo the progress you've made.
The disciplines we teach
We deliberately teach a spread of martial arts from one base so members can find the right fit and even cross-train. Here is a plain-English overview — if you want help matching a style to your goals, see how to choose a martial art.
- Striking arts. Stand-up systems built around punches, kicks, knees and footwork. These classes are superb for fitness and coordination, and they teach you to move with purpose under pressure.
- Self-defence styles. Practical, reality-based training focused on staying safe and acting decisively. The emphasis is on simple, repeatable responses rather than flashy moves.
- Traditional / belt arts. Structured disciplines with a grading syllabus and coloured belts. Brilliant for learners who like clear milestones, etiquette and a steady sense of progress.
- Grappling-based work. Close-range training covering control, balance and leverage. It builds remarkable body awareness and is a great equaliser for smaller or lighter members.
- Kids' programme. Age-banded classes that fold focus, respect, listening and fitness into games and drills children actually enjoy.

Kids' vs adults' sessions explained
Children's classes are shorter, high-energy and tightly structured, with coaches who keep one eye on technique and the other on fun and safety. Discipline is taught through clear routines, and young members can earn Children's University credits (Passport-to-Learning hours) toward their graduation just by attending — we're a recognised UK Children's University learning destination. Adult sessions run a little longer and go deeper into technique, conditioning and partner work. In adult and mixed classes, women train alongside men as standard, because effective training has to reflect reality — drilling only against people who are the same size or sex as you would have little effect when it counts.
What to wear and what's provided
For your first class, comfortable sportswear and a water bottle are all you need. We'll lend you any protective equipment for the session, and we'll explain what (if any) kit to buy once you've decided to carry on. For the full run-through of a first lesson, head to our beginner's guide.
Not sure which class?
That's completely normal, and it's exactly why we offer a spread of styles. Our choosing a martial art guide walks you through picking by goal, and our kids & family page covers the children's options in detail.
