Martial Arts Southport — Total Combat Martial Arts

Martial Arts Southport — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first class in Southport. If your question isn't here, just call [PHONE] or drop us a message.

What age can children start?

Most children can begin from around age four, when they're able to follow simple instructions in a group. Classes are banded by age so the pace always suits your child. Our kids & family page explains each group in detail.

Do I need to be fit or have experience?

Not at all. You get fit by training, not before it. Complete beginners of every age and fitness level are welcome, and classes are scalable so you work at your own pace. See the beginner's guide for what to expect.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable sportswear — a t-shirt and shorts or joggers — plus a water bottle. Tie back long hair and leave jewellery at home. We'll lend you any protective equipment for the session, so there's no kit to buy before you decide to continue.

How much does membership cost?

We keep pricing simple, with options for kids, adults, families and unlimited multi-discipline training. Current figures [PRICE — TBC] are confirmed at sign-up; see the free trial & prices page.

Is the first class really free?

Yes — genuinely free, with no obligation to join afterwards. It's a full, real class so you get an honest feel for the coaching and atmosphere. Book your free trial here.

Which martial art should I or my child choose?

It depends on your goal — fitness, self-defence, discipline or fun for the kids. Our how to choose a martial art guide walks you through it, and because we teach several styles under one roof you can try more than one before deciding.

Are the instructors qualified and DBS-checked?

Yes. Our coaches are experienced and DBS-checked, with first-aid and child-safety practices in place [INSTRUCTOR CREDENTIALS — TBC]. If you'd like to discuss our safeguarding or meet a coach before booking, please get in touch.

Do classes run all year, even in the school holidays?

They do. Classes run year-round with genuine continuity, including right through the school holidays — there are no long breaks. That's deliberate: martial arts progress is cumulative, so consistent training week to week is what keeps you and your child improving.

Can my child earn Children's University credits?

Yes — we're a recognised UK Children's University learning destination, so the classes your child attends can count toward Children's University credits (Passport-to-Learning hours) and their eventual graduation. Ask us to help set up their Passport when you visit.

Where are you and is there parking?

We're in Southport (PR8/PR9), within easy reach of Birkdale, Ainsdale and Churchtown. Full address, directions and parking details are on the contact page.

Do you offer family or sibling discounts?

We have family-friendly options for households with more than one member training. Ask us about the current arrangement — details are on the free trial & prices page.

How do I book?

Easiest of all — book a free trial online or call [PHONE]. A coach will confirm the best beginner slot for you or your child.
