Kids' Martial Arts Classes in Southport
Parents across Southport choose martial arts for their children because it delivers things a screen never will: confidence, focus, fitness and genuine respect for others. Our kids' classes are busy, friendly and structured, run by coaches who know how to settle a nervous first-timer and bring a quiet child out of their shell. From the very first lesson your child is part of a group that encourages one another — and because we teach several disciplines under one roof, there's room for them to grow into whichever style suits them best. Best of all, you can start with a completely free trial.
Benefits for children
Martial arts is one of the few activities that builds the body and the character at the same time. Children gain:
- Confidence. Learning a new skill, earning belts and standing tall in front of the class steadily replaces shyness with quiet self-assurance.
- Focus and self-discipline. Following instructions, waiting their turn and concentrating on a task carries straight over into the classroom and home.
- Anti-bullying resilience. Children learn to carry themselves calmly and to set boundaries — the kind of presence that deters trouble before it starts.
- Fitness. Real movement, coordination and stamina, dressed up as games they actually want to come back to.
- Respect. Bowing, listening and helping younger members teaches courtesy that parents notice quickly.
Earn Children's University credits
We're proud to be a recognised UK Children's University learning destination. That means every class your child attends can count toward Children's University credits — the Passport-to-Learning hours that build up toward a Children's University graduation. It's a lovely bonus: your child gets fitter, more confident and more disciplined, and they're rewarded for the learning they're doing outside school at the same time. Ask us how to register their Passport when you come in.
Age groups & what each class involves
We band classes by age so the pace and content are always right for your child. Younger groups (around ages 4–6) focus on listening, balance, coordination and following simple instructions through games. Middle groups (roughly 7–10) add more technique, partner drills and the structure of a grading syllabus. Older children and pre-teens (11+) train closer to the adult format, with greater intensity and responsibility. Exact age bands and times are on the timetable; if you're unsure which group fits, just ask and we'll place them well.
A typical kids' class
A lesson starts with a lively warm-up to burn off energy and prevent injury, moves into skills and drills appropriate to the age group, and often finishes with a game or a short challenge that reinforces what they've learned. Safety and supervision are paramount: group sizes are managed, coaches watch closely, and our instructors are DBS-checked [INSTRUCTOR CREDENTIALS — TBC]. Children train in a positive environment where effort is praised and mistakes are simply part of learning. Where age-appropriate, boys and girls train together — learning to work with all kinds of training partners is part of what makes the skills real.
Family & sibling options
Lots of our families train together, and we love it — siblings spur each other on, and parents who join in set a powerful example. Ask us about family arrangements when you visit; details and any sibling savings are covered on the free trial & prices page. And because classes run year-round, including through the school holidays, the routine never collapses during half-terms and summer.
Serving families across the area
We welcome children from right across Southport and the surrounding towns. Families travel in from Birkdale, Ainsdale and Churchtown, and we see plenty of members from Formby, Ormskirk and Crosby too. Wherever you are in Sefton, you'll find a friendly class and a convenient slot.
